Sabeer Bhatia, the co-founder of Hotmail, is in the spotlight after his documentary about PM Narendra Modi and businessman Gautam Adani was delisted from YouTube in India.

The recent documentary on PM Narendra Modi and businessman Gautam Adani has caused a stir.

The video is titled How Modi and Adani Stole India | The Friendship Files and its removal from Youtube has raised questions on freedom of expression and internet censorship in India.

Why Was Sabeer Bhatia’s Documentary Taken Down?

It is a well-known fact that Sabeer Bhatia has been a vocal critic of the Modi-led BJP government. The title of the documentary suggests that Bhatia had levelled some serious allegations against PM Modi and Gautam Adani.

YouTube is blocking access to the documentary in India due to a legal complaint from a government body, according to Mint. The platform, in an email shared by Bhatia, had looked at the complaint and limited access as per local laws.

The notice, however, failed to specify the specific law upon which the complaint is based, or explain the basis of the complaint in regard to the documentary itself. So it’s incorrect to say that the government has officially stated exactly why they don’t like the video.

What Did Sabeer Bhatia Say About the Ban?

The ban infuriated Bhatia in an Oct. 10 post on X. He accused the government of silencing information and urged people to support him.

Bhatia also recently claimed that one of the ministers called him and congratulated him for releasing the documentary. Bhatia also claims that his documentary has been viewed 5 million times till now.

“I’m so glad one of the political leaders called to congratulate me on releasing the film. He said nobody in India has the spine to do what you’re doing—exposing corruption at the highest levels of government. My goal is not just to expose this but to change it once and forever for the good of humanity.” Bhatia wrote

Is the document available worldwide?

Yes. The documentary is banned only in India; therefore, netizens who wish to see it can do so by using a free VPN.
