Twisha Sharma’s family, who were requested by the CJI Surya Kant not to talk about the case in the media, have defied the court’s request as they appear on Republic Media and discuss the details of the case.
Twisha’s father NavNidhi Sharma sat in the studio, and the host opined that
“To all the people watching my program calling me tonight saying you are defying the Supreme Court, I am not defying the Supreme Court. If letting the victim’s family speak about what happened that day is defying the Supreme Court, then I’m sorry, so be it. Republic is an independent news network, the largest in the country, we are doing our services.”
— Arnab Goswami said at the start of his prime time show
“To Major Harshit and to Navnidhi ji, I want you to stay because people of this country want to talk to you, Major. They want to connect with you and Navnidhi Ji, and we are with you.” Arnab said
Few days ago, Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant had requested Twisha’s family and the media to not to discuss the matter in the public domain. The CJI had said that
“We will continue to request them that don’t go for the statements of the victim’s family or the other family. Let the things move as per the law and procedure. The authority, the investigating agency, they will follow. Because otherwise statements are being recorded. And one section has started saying, because I think the mother-in-law happens to be a former district judge. It’s quite unfortunate that they started saying that the judiciary is not permitting to have a fair trial.”
— Justice Surya Kant on media questioning potential accused in the public domain
Many of you may be wondering that Republic Media and Twisha’s Family have defied the court orders, the honorable CJI had only requested the media not to interact with the potential accused, and that such individuals need to speak only with the investigative agencies.
