Journalist Richa Parashar has now become a major topic of discussion after an incident that took place during an Opposition protest in New Delhi caused a political row.

The journalist, who is employed by the news website Oneindia, has levelled serious accusations against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a result of the altercation that occurred while she was reporting on the event. The Congress has denied these allegations, and the incident has thus given rise to a vigorous debate on social media.

Who is Richa Parashar and what has happened?

Richa Parashar, who is a journalist and news presenter for Oneindia, was at the time of the alleged incident in October 2026 reporting on a protest organised by the INDIA bloc against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, the event taking place near the Supreme Court in Delhi.

Risha Parashar, who alleged that she is three months pregnant, said that Rahul Gandhi grabbed her hand and pulled her while the crowd was gathered at the demonstration. She asserted that she fell down a set of steps and sustained injuries. Moreover, she claimed that Gandhi’s security staff pushed both her and her cameraperson. She was subsequently taken to a hospital in Delhi.

Why Is the Incident Creating Controversy?

Parashar has criticised the Congress for questioning her version of events and stated that she had expected help following the incident. The BJP leaders have also brought up the matter and accused Gandhi of mistreating a journalist.

The Congress has, nevertheless, dismissed the accusation, describing it as political propaganda and casting doubt on the video evidence that is available. The footage which is spreading online is of poor quality and does not clearly show all the details of the alleged confrontation.

The need for covering a Protest during Pregnancy?

While the journalist was doing her duty, the question also arises about the need to cover a protest, that too during pregnancy, knowing fully well that physical altercations can happen.

There are questions also whether the incident happend with severity that the journalist is alleging! As per her, she was shoved, whereas the video does not clearly establish that but Parashar strongly alleged that she and her cameraman both were shoved.

The situation has now turned into a political issue, with doubts having been expressed regarding the safety of journalists and the behaviour of public figures at protests. The accusations are still in dispute, and the existing footage does not, on its own, clarify what actually took place.
