There are reports on social media that an Indian family, who went viral a few days ago for their plane buffet and an open cafeteria setting for dinner on an Indigo aeroplane, has been blacklisted by the airline company.
The video of the family eating food went viral and sparked outrage amongst the netizens. Many netizens on social media opined that the 15-member family was going on a vacation on an Indigo flight and had brought home-cooked food in the aeroplane in large quantities. It is said that it was a domestic flight and the 15-member family were Gujaratis.
Once the plane reached a stable altitude, the members of the family started distributing food amongst themselves, and the smell of it caused discomfort to the fellow passengers. The food reportedly was home-cooked and also included Dhoklas and Theplas.
It is also reported that the family not only ate the meal but also moved aisle to aisle in the aeroplane, gossiping and clicking pictures together, which caused further discomfort to not only the passengers but also the crew members.
After consuming the meal, one of the ladies could be seen packing all the garbage in a large disposable bag and showing to the camera.
Was the Behaviour of the family on the Aeroplane a lack of Civic Sense?
The debate amongst the netizens is divided. A large section of netizens opined that the behaviour of the family was not at all appropriate. Many argued that things like roaming from aisle to aisle, the smell of the food, and loud gossiping can cause significant discomfort to fellow passengers.
But there are also netizens who believe that the family was well within their rights to bring home-cooked food and eat it the way they wanted on the plane.
Many people lauded that the family did not scatter the leftovers and other used disposable items and instead collected them in a large trash bag.
Did it hamper the safety Of The Passengers?
If we go by the opinion of an ex-cabin crew member, the activity of the family members was unnecessary. Roopali Sethi, an ex-cabin crew member voiced her opinion on Instagram and stated “It’s not about civic sense. It’s about cabin and passenger safety.”
According to Sethi, instructions from cabin crew restricting such activities should not automatically be interpreted as an attempt to force passengers to purchase food sold by the airline. She stressed that safety is the primary concern.

It’s not about civic sense. It’s about cabin and passenger safety. Imagine sudden clear air turbulence, with passengers standing, moving between rows and distributing food. Neither the captain nor the crew may have any warning.
Someone could lose balance or even be thrown upwards.
It also makes it difficult for the crew to move through the cabin or respond quickly in an emergency.
You’ll see that when a cabin crew member says, “Ma’am, this is not allowed,” the immediate response is often, “Because you want to sell your expensive airline food?” No. That’s not the reason. It’s about safety. ”
Is The Family Blacklisted/Banned By Indigo Airline?
There are many rumors going on social media that the particular family has been blacklisted by the Indigo airline. However, we have not found any credible reports yet that this news is true.
Therefore, the claim should be treated as unverified unless Indigo or another reliable source officially confirms it.
There is already growing criticism and resentment in the world towards Indians for the lack of civic sense, the videos of which have become prominent on the Internet in the last few years, and the latest video has added to that perception and triggered another wave of criticism online.
