Renowned actor Govinda has given another perspective of his coming late to sets back when he was in popular demand. As per the actor, his late on arrival meant that his co-stars would receive over time payment. The actor also joked that because of his late coming to sets, actors like Shakti Kapoor and Kader Khan transitioned to bungalows from flats.

During a podcast with Smita Prakash, the actor revealed his habit of coming late to sets as he used to sign multile films.

Govinda defended his decision of signing multiple films as he opined that the producers wanted him badly for their movies and he couldn’t refuse their offers.

Govinda also claimed that many of the co-stars who had to wait and work longer hours due to his late arrivals, also made more money due to his late arrival on sets.

Govinda: There was no chance I could have arrived on time during those days because I was working 4 – 5 shifts daily. Nobody can do. How will anyone do 4 – 5 shootings in a day?

Smita : Then why do you use to sign so many films at one go?

Govinda: Everyone used to do it. Nobody grabs your collar to make you sign a film. People used to come and request that they want to work with me and that they will plan and manage. But then they didn’t used to do it.

Smita : But then your co-stars used to wait on sets.

Govinda : They had to wait because they knew that I used to do 4 – 5 shifts in a day.

Smita: But it was unfair on your co-stars!

Govinda : No. They were making money. They were doing business. What are you saying?

Smita: But the co-actors, they used to sit and wait for your arrival?

Govinda: They were also making money. They were charging for it.

Smita: On per day basis?

Govinda: I did 43 films with Kader Khan and 42 films with Shakti Kapoor. They all used to live in flats but then migrated to bungalows. Everyone’s family became prosperous back then.

Govinda’s popularity was surging in the late 90s and early 2000s. His comic timing, dialogue delivery and acting was considered impeccable by many veterans.
