Dr. Prabhleen Kaur is, the doctor who went viral few months ago for resigning her job on the very first day has now shared her corporate experience in detail. One of the unethical things she pointed out is that hospital managements often use doctor’s stamp and signature in order to make decisions of the patient with the intent of inflating the bills.
The doctor did not revealed the name of the hospital but indicated that the hospital (or the franchise) is well-known.
Dr. Prabhleen Kaur Says Patients Were Kept in ICU to Generate Revenue
In an podcast with Nachiket Bhatia, according to Dr. Kaur, she noticed that some patients were being admitted to the ICU even when, in her assessment, they did not require admission in the ICU.
She opined about the example of a patient who was suffering from relatively mild gastrointestinal symptoms with some symptoms of loose motions. The patient however did not have signs of dehydration or significant underlying comorbidities. She said there was no apparent medical indication for keeping such a patient in the ICU but the decision was taken by the management to admit the patient in the ICU.
Dr. Kaur said she ultimately decided that she could not work in a system where she believed patient-care decisions were being influenced by revenue considerations.
She also said that another senior physician who had previously worked at the same hospital had reportedly resigned for similar reasons, emphasizing the fact that the problem was not simply a disagreement between a young doctor and senior management.
Dr. Kaur alleged that the such decisions were taken solely to increase the billing of the patient.
Unethical use of Doctor Stamps and Signature By The Management
Dr. Prabhleen also made a grave allegation that she has inexpericed unethical practices where the hospital management would use the doctor’s stamp and signature in order to make decisions concerning the patients. This was done so that the patient could be shifted to ICU when in reality they didn’t needed that level of treatment.
The doctor revealed that she is now doing her own practice and that its going on quite well.
