Yograj Singh in an interview has again taken a strong jibe at MS Dhoni (without taking his name) by opiniating that the former Indian captain ruined the careers of many Indian players. Yograj also talked about his son Yuvraj Singh and how the career would have spanned out if Yuvraj would have been given the opportunity to lead Team India.

In an interview, Yograj spoke on many aspects of Yuvraj Singh. He opiniated that Yuvraj’s test career was hampered due to politics in the dressing room.

“The person you are talking about, I don’t like to take his name. That man destroyed not only Yuvi’s career but also the careers of seven other players. I am sorry to say this. I won’t take his name… The whole world knows it.”

Had Requested Dilip Vengsarkar to Make Yuvraj the Captain : Yograj Singh

Yograj then went on to opined that he requested Dilip Vengsarkar to handover captaincy to Yuvraj Singh and that the Indian Team would have reached a different level of dominance if Yuvraj Singh was made the captain in 2007 but things got changed after Sachin Tendulkar’s endorsement of Dhoni for leadership.

“Dilip Vengsarkar asked me. I told Vengsarkar, who was a selector in 2007, to make Yuvraj the captain before the inaugural T20 World Cup, and he would be the greatest captain you would ever see. But then he may have spoken to Sachin Tendulkar. What I am saying is, you should have given Yuvraj a chance. You could have given him a series, two series. If that didn’t turn out well, then you could have brought MS into the captaincy.”
— Yograj Singh said during the interview

Yuvraj was the vice captain in 2007 and it was expected that he would be elevated to the captaincy role, however, a suggestion from Sachin Tendulkar made Dhoni as the captain and the rest is history.

“I just wanted to say… you should have given at least one captaincy run to Yuvraj Singh. You are the selector. One man is not selecting the whole team. Sachin advised against Yuvraj Singh because he didn’t want the pressure to be on Yuvi. But I think Yuvi, as a captain, would have taken India to the greatest height. He would have won us five World Cups. This team would not have scattered.”
— Yograj Singh

Sachin in previous interviews had stated that he realized MS’s game awareness while talking to him in slip cordon and gelling with the team mates which was a big reason on why he endorsed Dhoni to selectors for the leadership which was offered to Sachin Tendulkar in 2007.

Fans Reaction

Many people in the comment section indicated that Yuvraj’s average of 34 in 40 test matches was the reason of him not getting a long rope in test career.

Between 2003 and 2012, Yuvraj Singh played 40 Tests, scoring 1,900 runs at an average of 33.92, with a highest score of 169, including 3 centuries and 11 half-centuries, while also contributing 62 wickets with the ball.
