YouTuber and political commentator Dhruv Rathee is facing online criticism after a statement made by him in the recent terror attack’s wake. The accusations of downplaying terrorists’ role and amplifying a narrative that fosters hatred against the Hindu community sparked a fiery debate on X, drawing some significant reactions from observers and more.
The majority of people agreed with Dhruv Rathee’s opinion though, as his post got around 30k likes, but plenty of people expressed strong criticism.
Social Media accuses Dhruv Rathee of downplaying the terror role and more
The entire controversy ignited after a post made by Rathee on X discussed the aftermath of terrorist incidents. His remarks, “They want to divide India and cause a civil war. This is the 0.5 front, be careful of such people,” didn’t sit well with a large section of netizens, who then voiced their strong disapproval with his words. The backlash faced by him was quite severe, and many users even accused him of having a clear bias as well as a malicious agenda.
“What is wrong in it their basic principles itself preaching to non followers them unless they themselves should change. We are not paid toolkits like you sitting in foreign country posting with full of hatred towards own people,” a user commented on X.
While the other posted quite a satirical image. As per it, Rathee and his topics are pre-determined of targeting BJP and whitewashing Muslim community’s image.
The users didn’t stop it. One even called him a BJP hater. As per the user, he believed Rathee was truly unbiased, but now he believes otherwise. “Bro you not entered in politics yet, Always be willing to call right what is right and wrong what is wrong.” “Don’t cling to a single ideology and let it drag you into hating others.👎🏿👎🏿,” the user ended the post with these remarks.
A further critique came through an elaborate analogy on mosquitoes. In it, the user, implying Rathee is defending perpetrators, wrote, “THE TOOLKIT 1.Not all mosquitoes BITE 2.Mosquitoes are Biggest victims of MALARIA 3.Mosquitoes don’t kill microbes do 4.Mosquitoes don’t belong to any Community/Species… IN All Species There’re good & bad ones.”
Some users even started calling him a German dog, with a user stating, “Everyone knows who the real tool kit, a dog from Germany ”
“Doesn’t take much to condemn the attack btw,” stated another, trying to show, instead of making such remarks, Rathee must have just condemned the attack that led to loss of lives and with many being left injured.
Fellow influencers’ scrutiny intensifies the Dhruv Rathee comments aftermath
Amidst all the public scrutiny, the situation escalated as YouTuber Gaurav Taneja, aka Flying Beast, gave his stance on Rathee’s post. He targeted the post made by Rathee, which criticized the right-wing voice for advising citizens against renting/selling property to members of a certain community. Rathee labelled this rhetoric as a toolkit that was designed for sowing division.
In the sharp retort, Taneja reportedly said, “Always protecting and defending the culprits,” trying to indirectly accuse Rathee of shielding those who are responsible for the attack near the Red Fort, Delhi. This attack now by the Centre has been described as a “terrorist incident.”
Not the First Time
Although Rathee actively highlights controversies and wrongdoings linked to the BJP government, he tends to soften his tone and speak more cautiously when the people involved belong to other communities. When Rathee made a video about the RG Kar Hospital, netizens observed that he was cautious and didn’t criticize the Mamta Banerjee’s TMC government like he does the BJP government.
A lady highlighted Rathee’s posts before 2014 (when the BJP came in power) where he freely used to express criticism of the other communities, something which is rarely seen after 2014.
