An Indian NRI living in South Korea has lambasted the Indian Embassy for not doing proactive work to help Indians when they are in dire need.
The video by the Indian NRI comes a few days after an Indian couple, Sachin Awasthi and his wife, were illegally detained in South Korea and kept in jail-like conditions. The couple was finally allowed to return to India after 38 hours. After the incident went viral, many people are questioning the role of the Indian Embassy and whether they could have dealt with the matter swiftly!
“They Threatened me” Indian NRI in Seoul recounts his horrible experience with the Indian Embassy
Raj, an Indian NRI living in South Korea for the last 12 years, has opined that the Indian Embassy is good for nothing and that he had a terrible time dealing with them when he wanted to return to India during Covid 2020.
“Let me tell you. I don’t like the Indian Embassy here at all.
Maybe the staff has changed now but I had a lot of issues with them during the COVID time. There weren’t many flights from Korea to India during that time.
We had to go to India through different flight routes. So I had tweeted about them, whether I should go and ask for help from the Pakistani embassy instead?
I got a call immediately after that, and they threatened me. I had recorded the voice then.
They threatened me like anything. I had said at that time that the Indian Embassy should have been more proactive and anticipatory of help during the COVID time.
Flights didn’t run for almost 3–4 years. People had to book a charter plane at that time to return to India, which was very expensive.”
— Youtuber Raj, who is living in South Korea for the last 12 years, said in his video
Sachin had revealed in his video that he tried to contact the Indian Embassy for help, but couldn’t reach them as the IVR was in the Korean Language. The Indian NRI in South Korea, who often makes vlogs, recently opined that Sachin Awasthi would have gotten in touch with the Embassy if he had held the phone longer, as the English IVR starts after the Korean IVR, but opined that the Indian Embassy would have done nothing even if he had gotten in touch with them.
“Even if you had called them, they would have done nothing. The embassy people are there just for photo-clicking whenever the ambassador comes.
South Korea is like a honeymoon for these embassy people. Here, the Indian embassy does nothing.
If his (Sachin Awasthi) call didn’t connect with the embassy at that time, then it’s good actually, otherwise he would have gotten more disappointed.
He would have gotten more disappointed with the Indian embassy rather than the Korean government. But I still think that the Indian embassy should have talked to the Korean government in this case.”
— Raj, highlighting his observation of the Indian Embassy in Seoul over the last decade
Embassy Role?
Questions are bound to come to mind on why it is hard to connect with the embassy when it should be quite easy. Also, the observation of the Indian NRI about the lethargic effort of the Indian Embassy, from his own personal experience, should be investigated.
