While Akshay Khanna stole the spotlight, it wouldn’t have been possible for his role to shine if characters like Jameel Jamali were not there in the story.

Rakesh Bedi, who played the interesting character of Jameel Jamali, recently spoke about his performance in Dhurandhar and the love and attention the character has received from fans.

The audience loved the character for its sarcastic cum humorous comments. It may seem from the first part, that he has let go of his power to Hamza, however the sequel may reveal even a darker version of the character.

Regarding the follow-up, Bedi revealed that Jameel Jamali’s narrative will only intensify in Dhurandhar 2. He clarified that although Jamali was portrayed in the first movie as a cunning and power-hungry manipulator, the upcoming installment will go into far darker aspects of his character. His plan included more than merely pushing his son-in-law as king of Lyari.

According to Bedi, Jamali’s fixation with maintaining power and his fear of losing control are the true battles.

Bedi also complimented director Aditya Dhar and the character’s writing. He claims that what sets Jameel Jamali apart is that he isn’t always malevolent. He is violent and cruel, but when it comes to his daughter, he absolutely melts down. Bedi thinks that the character’s emotional touch allowed viewers to identify with it.

The actor talked about how his extensive theatrical background still influences his films. He has been playing on stage for many years, which has allowed him to become an expert in movement, framing its language, and the art of silence, all of which are important for giving characters life on a display screen.

He has also expressed his worries about the condition of the film business, claiming that sudden success might result in arrogance and rapid production, particularly on over-the-top (OTT) platforms. For Bedi, it’s much more important to stay grounded, work regularly, and value the art.

With Dhurandhar 2 set to release in March 2026, Bedi vows that Jameel Jamali will return more dangerous and unpredictable, upping the stakes for everyone involved.
