It is not a secret that actor Anupam Kher refuses to criticize the BJP on any issue. On many occasions, he has openly reflected his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has ignored the criticisms that reflect the overall picture of progress under the current government.

In the recent interview with Samdish, Anupam believes that there is a “marked shift” in perception about Indians in the eyes of foreigners due to Narendra Modi’s being in power, and that people have become more “aspirational”. When Samdish questioned about the domestic problems of India and especially about not having enough per capita income despite being the 4th largest economy, Anupam defended the government by opining that “A critic looks at it which is not there ” and that “India is in its 79th year only after Independence and that the country remained a slave for nearly 1000 years.”

Samdish: I hadn’t seen this side of you. It’s been 10–11 years. We are no longer a Congress-ruled country. And states also keep changing. Right?

Samdish: That’s why I’m asking — can I call you a vocal supporter of the BJP, or would that be incorrect?

Anupam Kher: I think it is easy for you to say that. I think — you can say… Call me a vocal supporter of India. That’s fantastic. I relate to that.

Anupam Kher: I think I am a vocal supporter of India — a proud Indian. Anybody who talks about India, I have my full faith in him or her.

Anupam Kher: Now, if in that sphere the present regime or the present establishment talks about India, then you can easily say I support them.

Anupam Kher: So if you want, I’m completely fine with how you just described me, yes.

Time and again, the actor has reflected his support towards the BJP government; however has failed to raise a voice on prominent issues such as corruption, increase in fuel prices over the years, and the latest being the AQI problem, which has gripped Delhi and Northern India in recent months.

As per Anupam, anyone talking well about India will always have his support. It is hard to fathom the positives of the current government to the extent that the actor decides to ignore its criticism and shortcomings all the time. But what is worth mentioning is that Anupam Kher’s wife, Kirron Kher, was a Member of Parliament from the BJP for ten years (2014 to 2024) from the Chandigarh constituency.

When Samdish pointed out the criticism related to the recent election campaigns (After the expose done by Rahul Gandhi), Anupam urged the opposition to suggest solutions rather than pointing out problems in the country. As per Anupam, doing so will increase the probability of them winning the elections rather than simply pointing out problems under the Modi regime.

As per the actor, criticism should only be done by people who have the willpower to act in order to bring the desired change.

Conclusion

Over the years, we have clearly seen that the actor has been shy to criticise the BJP government on extremely prominent issues and has reflected support on matters that are rarely backed by concrete, measurable data, except for anecdotal evidence.
