In what could be termed as below the belt, Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir has taken a sharp dig at Mohammad Kaif and said that the former Indian player had the fortune that Sourav Ganguly was his captain because he was there in the team solely because of his fielding and not because of his batting ability.

Amir made the remark on his YouTube channel as he was responding to the criticism made by Mohammad Kaif. Kaif had opined a few days ago that Amir was deliberately giving a wrong prediction about India that the host nation would not reach the semis, and that he was doing it solely to seek attention.

Kaif also opined that Amir was the bowler who leaked 17 runs in the super over against the USA, referring to Pakistan’s shocking defeat in the 2024 T20 WC against US which went down to the super over.

You played because of Fielding and not because of batting”: Mohammad Amir to Kaif

Amir started with a veiled jibe by saying that he didn’t know much about Mohammad Kaif’s cricketing career.

“So I looked at his stats and saw that he has played only 29 IPL matches and has a strike rate of 103. And he is telling me that I am doing so and so for seeking attention.

First of all, I would like to say that I don’t have to take attention by taking India’s name. I have played 350 T20 matches. And I didn’t play cricket because of just fielding. I played because of my performances. You should thank your captain, Sourav Ganguly. I got to know from ex-cricketers that Kaif used to have his place in the Indian team because of his fielding only (and not because of his batting)

If you were playing in today’s era, you may not find a place in the team just because of your fielding.”

What Amir had predicted earlier?

During a show, Hasna Mana Hai, Amir had given bold predictions that he didn’t see India qualifying for the semi-finals. Earlier, he had predicted India to lose to the West Indies in the knockout game. After India won that game, Amir then predicted that India would lose to England in the semis. In the very beginning, Amir had labelled Abhishek Sharma as a “slogger,” for which he got a lot of criticism from the Indian fans.
