Indian journalist Shubhankar Mishra is getting a lot of flak on social media for interviewing former Pakistani bowler Waqar Younis. Netizens opined that Mishra preaches boycotting Pakistani players but doesn’t apply the same principle to himself, and went on to interview the former Pakistani cricketer.

Why Internet is criticizing Indian Journalist ShubhanKar Mishra for interviewing Waqar Younis?

Back in 2021, when Pakistan had defeated India convincingly at the T20 WC, Waqar Younis had made a controversial statement as a guest on ARY panel.

Waqar had commented that he felt immense satisfaction seeing Mohammad Rizwan doing namaz in front of the Hindu crowd at the stadium after Pakistan defeated India.

Waqar was severely criticized for his statement. He then, in turn expressed an apology and said that he made the remark in the heat of the moment.

In August 2022, Shubhankar Mishra, in his tweet, indirectly requested the broadcaster not to take Waqar Younis on their panel because of the earlier Hindophobic remark related to Namaaz doing in front of Hindus.

After the recent podcast went viral, netizens are now slamming Shubhankar Mishra and reflecting the sentiment of double standards.

Anchor Deletes Tweet After Old Tweet Goes Viral Where He Demanded Boycott of Waqar Younis

Netizens shared the link to the tweet when Shubhankar Mishra criticized the broadcaster for signing up Waqar Younis. At that time, the former cricketer was trending for the wrong reasons for his controversial remark, where he expressed immense satisfaction at seeing cricketer Mohammad Rizwan doing Namaz in front of the Hindu after Pakistan defeated India in the 2022 WC semi-final.

When we tried to access the link, it appears that the indian journalist has deleted the tweet.

We cross-checked on Google and found that the link allegedly was the one where Mishra had openly criticised Waqar Younis and had urged the broadcaster Star Sports to consider whether to hire him or not on the commentary panel.

Hypocrisy or Business?

There have been multiple instances where Shubhankar Mishra had criticised the BCCI for allowing matches with Pakistan, citing the commercial benefit that Pakistan gets from playing against India.

Netizens are now echoing the sentiment whether Shubhankar Mishra should have avoided a Pakistani cricketer on his podcast just like he had preached earlier about boycotting matches with Pakistan.
