A dashcam video of a serious car accident that took place near Chakrata in Uttarakhand has appeared online. The video was allegedly captured while a vehicle drove down a road on a mountain and then spiraled into a steep ravine.
The accident reportedly happened near Chilhaad village on Chakrata Road on Friday. The video has since been shared on social media, capturing the terrifying moments when the car abruptly heads towards the edge of the road and crashes down into the gorge.
Car Loses Control On Mountain Road
The short dashcam footage shows the vehicle travelling on the mountain road before it seems to lose control after getting hit from car coming from behind and then falls down in the mountains.
The incident is alleged to have happened on 2nd October as per the Dashcam recording.
Overspeeding and Careless Driving?
From the dashcam footage, one could hear a group of men enjoying their ride with a song playing in the background. But what was shocking was the speed of the vehicle.
On one instance, the dashcam shows the car reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph. Such speeds in the mountains are extremely risky, especially when the curves are very steep, which allows only a minimal probability of survival if an accident happens.
Was Denying Overtake To the car Behind?
Another eyebrow-raising thing that can be observed from the footage at 0.48 minutes is that a car from behind honked to overtake; however, the driver could be heard denying it.
One of the boys: “Let the behind car overtake”
Driver: Why should I let it go?
As per some social media posts, the SDRF team was called up to rescue the people from the car that had fallen down in the mountains. The driver, allegedly named Durgesh Chaudhary, died on the spot, while the rest of the men are recovering at the hospital.

Video Highlights Risks Of Mountain Roads
The fact that the video has gone viral has also led to talks regarding road safety in hilly regions, since sharp bends, steep drops and the narrowness of the roads can make driving particularly difficult.
The video is said to have been recorded on Friday, but since the time of publishing, no information could be obtained from the footage regarding the exact circumstances of the accident and the condition of the people involved.
The clip has primarily drawn attention for recording the accident as it occurred, serving as a clear visual reminder of how rapidly a normal drive along a mountain road can become dangerous. The exact details, including whether or not a formal police case or FIR is not known yet.
