Ranveer Allahbadia has given a reason for the fact that he employs fewer people from the top cities in all his businesses. In a video that he recently uploaded, the entrepreneur and podcaster expressed his views on why individuals from secondary cities are able to be better long-term members of a team.
Why He Looks Beyond Tier-1 Cities
Allahbadia stated that the first-tier cities have a large number of potential entrepreneurs and freelancers; yet he thinks that starting a successful business involves more than just individual talent, saying that the right team should consist of people who are willing to stay together, grow with the company, and have a strong team spirit.
“We consciously hire less from Tier 1 cities,” said Ranveer Allahabadia in the short video.
Allahbadia said some of the best attributes he seeks in his employees are emotional quotient and being a team player. He said that among the people coming from what he termed as “real India”, these attributes have been very common, especially those coming from Tier-2 cities.
His basis for reasoning is the distinct experiences of young people who are leaving a smaller city for a larger urban centre to seek opportunities.
Allahbadia pointed out that many of these young professionals leave behind their homes and familiar surroundings to move to a new city and pursue their dreams, which makes them more determined and committed than the average Tier 1 City people.

The reason given by the entrepreneur is that although Tier-1 cities are able to produce a large number of capable entrepreneurs and freelancers, if a business is to achieve growth over a number of years it needs people who are able to work well as a team and also have a high emotional quotient.
It is because of his comments that there has been interest, since they go against the usual belief that the largest cities are always the best places in which to find business talent.
For Allahbadia, recruitment is not just a matter of selecting the most impressive individual profile but also involves finding people who have the right mindset to grow together as a team.
