Mohammad Deepak, who became a celebrity as a gym owner who came out in defense of a Muslim shopkeeper earlier this year, has claimed that his Facebook account has been blocked in India after he got bail recently.
The claim has recently caught the ear of contemporary media after he was released on bail in an alleged altercation with a local businessman.
Officially known as Deepak Kumar, Deepak was arrested in Kotdwar on October 1 on a complaint from businessman Sanjeev Tonk. He was released on bail the next evening in the presence of a sub-divisional magistrate
Why Was Mohammad Deepak Arrested?
The clash started after Tonk posted a comment on a social media post made by Deepak regarding partial demolition of a mosque in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, according to police. Tonk said that he was later visited by Deepak, who abused him and threatened him. Deepak had been arrested as a precautionary measure due to fear of a possible breach of peace.
A case of criminal intimidation and intentional insult was registered initially by police. Further fees were reportedly imposed following a review of CCTV footage and other information. The charges are still pending.
It was in January 2026 that Deepak first made headlines when he confronted a Muslim businessman, whose business they named a “pet shop”, in the middle of an anti-Muslim protest. The video of the confrontation spread like wildfire and Deepak was dubbed “Mohammad Deepak” by the online community.
Facebook Account Claim Draws Fresh Attention
After Deepak was released on bail, there was another development to the story, namely, the claim that his Facebook account has been blocked in India.
Deepak himself confirmed in a video that his FB account is not accessible in India and allege that it was a deliberate attempt by the administration so that his appeal does not reach to his supporters.
“If they think, they will suppress my voice by blocking my FB account , then they are wrong. I have always stood for humanity and will continue to do it. The constitution gives me right to stand up for things which are wrong.” Deepak Kumar said in the video.
No independent confirmation of the account’s status and why it was required to be restricted was found in the reports reviewed.
Just because someone has blocked or restricted a social media account doesn’t automatically mean it’s because of the content that was being posted.
But in India, we have often seen in recent years that many social media accounts have been blocked temporarily by the government for reasons that do not seem valid.
