Mohammad Deepak, who rose to fame for defending an elderly Muslim man a year ago who was protesting against his decades-old shop name, has been arrested, allegedly for threatening a Hindu businessman.

Cause of Argument?

As per many reports, Mohammad Deepak and trader Sanjeev Tonk engaged in an argument related to a FB post about illegal mosque demolition on which Tonk had commented; however, nothing is confirmed yet.

CCTV footage is circulating on social media showing Mohammad Deepak coming in close proximity to a Sanjeev Tonk with whom he was in a heated confrontation related to a post published by the man on FB.

In the footage, it appears that Mohammad Deepak threatened to hit the man and even touched him multiple times.

“I will hit you,” the words could be heard coming from Mohammad Deepak before other men came in to stop the argument from escalating.

Arrested

As per many reports, Mohammad Deepak has been arrested by the Kotdwar police, and charges under Sections 351(2) and 352 BNS; Sections 196 and 115 BNS have been levied against him.

Hypocrisy?

The move by the Kotdwar police appears hypocritical, as they took their own sweet time to arrest the members of Bajrang Dal who threatened Deepak Kumar for protecting the elderly Muslim man last year when Deepak prevented members of Bajrang Dal from harassing and threatening Wasim Ahmed for dropping the word “baba” from his shop name.

In fact, despite clear evidence, Deepak Kumar was named in a separate FIR which was allegedly filed by the members of Bajrang Dal.

The CCTV footage where Deepak has a tiff with a businessman appears everyday normal confrontation between two people over nonsensical petty issues, but the Kotdwar police acted swiftly and arrested Mohammad Deepak.
