Kolkata-based medical intern Sudeshna Mondal has become the subject of a heated social media debate after photos allegedly showing her with patients and newborn babies inside a hospital were shared online.

According to reports, Mondal, who is an intern at the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, was criticized following the spread of screenshots of her Facebook posts on X.

Some of the pictures were photographs of newborn babies, and a picture of her stitching a woman after childbirth. The controversy has since grown, with social media users questioning her decision to share images involving patients, particularly women recovering from childbirth and newborn babies.

Why Is Sudeshna Mondal Facing Backlash?

The posts have sparked concerns about patient privacy and consent, especially since the images included newborns and women in medical settings.

The posts were shared on her Instagram Id escapingfromtheordinary and she has now made the account private which was earlier visible to everyone. Her Twitter handle is drpurpleready

Some X users raised questions about whether the patients had signed any agreements to have their photos taken and displayed in public.

Others called for authorities to look into the matter.
After users started posting about Mondal’s academic status, the controversy grew even larger, with some of whom were angry and questioning how she got there.

The rank being drummed up on the internet, however, has not been verified independently, and social media reports of her academic achievements should not be accepted as fact.

Mondal was earlier apologetic for posting images of newborn babies. After discovering the sensitivity of the matter, she said she had deleted these posts and would not repeat it, reports said.

As for the delivery room photo, reports indicated that Mondal had gotten the patient’s consent several hours after the birth. The controversy is still raging on X, and there has been no resolution yet regarding the incident.

The Intern Defends Herself

Sudesh Mondal, inher defesne stated that one of such story was a dissapearing message on Instagram and that the account was not public.

“I posted this a disappearing story in my PRIVATE Instagram account, that’s not called engagement farming.
You taking screenshots of that and posting it here on a public account is exactly the definition of engagement farming.” Said Dr. Sudesh on her Twitter.

The criticism has been intense in the online sphere over Mondal, but the bigger issue has also sparked renewed focus on patient confidentiality, informed consent and the duties of health care providers in social media.
